What a vocational nurse earns, by where they work

The Bureau of Labor Statistics counts 651,580 licensed practical and vocational nurses. California and Texas, the two states that call the licence “vocational”, employ 140,410 of them between them. Below is the whole distribution rather than a single average, because the gap between the tenth and ninetieth percentile is larger than the gap between most states.

Same licence name, $17,510 apart at the median. California pays more everywhere in the distribution, and its cost of living is why that comparison is less decisive than it looks.
