Openings, next to what the job pays there

Job boards show you the salary an employer chose to advertise. These pages show you that beside the federal figure for the same job in the same state, so you can tell whether an offer is generous, ordinary or an insult before you spend an hour on the application.

Search by state

All 50 states, plus DC and the territories

Every state page carries current openings and the full wage distribution for that state, from the tenth to the ninetieth percentile. Two states advertise the role as licensed vocational nurse, the rest as licensed practical nurse, so each page searches for the term that state actually uses.

The live listings feed is not connected on this deployment yet. State pages currently hand off to pre-filtered searches instead, and will fill in as soon as it is.

Reading a nursing job advert

  • An advertised range is a range. Compare its bottom against the tenth percentile on the state page, not its top against the ninetieth.
  • Shift differential, weekend rates and overtime are usually excluded from an advertised base and can be worth several thousand a year.
  • Long-term care pays differently from clinics and home health, and the same state figure covers all of them. A number well under the median usually means a setting, not a bad employer.
  • Agency and travel roles quote higher hourly rates against no benefits and no guaranteed hours. That is a different deal, not a better one.
